Thommi’s East Frisian Tea Ceremony at Theehuis Engel’s Tuin

On Friday 10 April, we are delighted to welcome a special guest to Theehuis Engel’s Tuin: Thommi Baake, tea entertainer, tea sommelier, and passionate storyteller from Germany. As an expert in the East Frisian tea tradition and the author of two books on the subject, he brings this remarkable culture to life in a warm and engaging way.

Did you know that in the north, people drink an average of 300 litres of tea per year? It is a remarkable tea culture that has endured for more than three centuries.

Through stories, Thommi takes us to East Frisia, a land of sea and tea. As a professional tea enthusiast, he paints a vivid picture of this living tradition, with humour, music, and of course the ceremony itself — tea served with a Kluntje, a Wulkje, and a biscuit.

Thommi has previously presented this ceremony in places including Paris and Hanover, and now we are honoured to welcome him to Ootmarsum, in the intimate setting of our teahouse.
